Over the last few days, I’ve been seeing some articles and tweets asking if Agile is nothing more than Waterfall running in a compressed time schedule. Rather than having projects with timelines of months or years, Agile compresses everything into weeks and months. So is Agile nothing more than a mini Waterfall methodology? Continue reading
“We Hold These Truths to be Self-Evident, that all men are created equal…”. This statement became perhaps the most famous part of the Declaration of Independence, one of the founding documents of this country. But yet, each and every day, people are treated not as equals, but rather in inferior manners. True, in some cases, you have to have some expertise or training or knowledge. Lord knows, I wouldn’t want someone wiring my house that didn’t understand the basics of electrical wiring at the very least. Continue reading
Last week I was on vacation taking a break from the world after the CMA Awards and development of the CMT Artists of the Year event sites. My wife and I headed over to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park (GSMNP) in an effort to relax and unwind. It was very successful in that I feel a renewed energy and dedication in my life.
Surely everyone has heard of servant leadership at this point. I know for a fact that you have if you adhere to the Scrum project management tenants. The Scrum Master is a servant leader to the Scrum team, removing impediments and getting whatever the team needs to complete a sprint.
Need something to ponder today? Perhaps here are some things to consider:
Why is the weekend always on Saturday and Sunday?
Why do some calendars show Sunday as the start of the week and others show Monday as the start of the week?
Do you tell someone each and every day that you love them?
When was the last time that you simply took someone to lunch and talk about anything they wanted to?
Likewise, when did you last tell someone in public that they did a good job?
For those of you that follow me on Twitter, you may have noticed tweets from a person named Esther Derby. Without a doubt, Esther is a extremely intelligent and highly respected person in the Agile community. Yesterday, she put a post up on her site titled “Peck, Peck,Peck”. I was inspired by it so much that I focused back on a draft that I had been thinking about for some time and finished it up.
Recently I’ve been doing a lot of thinking about the above statement. Can a person become or even maintain their leadership status without having a foundation of trust to begin on? And likewise, if someone is trustworthy, can they be seen as a leader or break into the ranks of leadership?
Recently, I have been getting a few questions about can Agile be used in something more than in software development. My response is that yes any organization can use Agile to increase their productivity, improve morale and highlight problems within that organization. There are case studies where Marketing departments, Sales departments and call centers that have implemented an Agile methodology successfully.
I was on the way to church last night when I learned of Steve Jobs’ death. I immediately felt a part of me disappear even though I never met the man and up until about 4 years ago I didn’t own an Apple product. Come to my house today and you will find an iPod, iPad 2, iMac and the Apple TV. Continue reading
Well, it has happened again. Another round of layoffs in the corporation that I work at. That is the main reason I wasn’t on Twitter much yesterday. To each of you that have been affected by this latest round of cuts, know that each of you have made an indelible mark on me. It has been my absolute privilege to work along side each of you through the years, days and months. Continue reading
